Rarely seen in UK gardens and a real talking point, this is a seriously underrated plant for a large space.
Originating in Florida, Phytolacca americana is a robust and vigorous plant with long spikes of small, green-white flowers from May until autumn, followed by glossy black berries which are loved by birds. Dies back to the ground in winter and reaches full height again very quickly in spring/early summer.
Height: 2.5m
Common name(s): American Pokeweed, Poke, Pokeberry, Dragonberries
Please note, all parts of the plant are poisonous.
