Flowering for weeks in the summer, this fully hardy unique perennial produces a profusion of two inch wide, brilliant orange blossoms with heavy red specking and shading on the petals. Green, sword-shaped foliage similar to that of a tall bearded iris.
In autumn, pear-shaped pods burst open to reveal clusters of black seeds resembling black berries. The pods and seeds remain if left, adding interest over winter.
Useful in fresh or dried flower arrangements.
Native to eastern Russia, China and Japan
