Ancient Britons' Facepaint
The leaves of the Woad plant were used to produce a blue dye that ancient Britons used as body paint when going into battle. Woad is also an antiseptic and it is likely that it was used on wounds at the time.
The seeds make a nice olive coloured dye and the seedheads can be stored for many months and make stunning additions to arrangements.
