An unusual, dwarf variegated form of our native Sanguisorba officinalis. Forms low mats of green and white leaves from which short stems of red burnet-like flowers appear in mid to late summer.
Flowers usually start out red and gradually turn dark chocolate brown. Happy in a range of soils from well drained to wet.
Sanguisorba officinalis has been used in traditional Chinese medicine where it is known by the name Di Yu. It is said to cool the blood, stop bleeding, clear heat, and heal wounds (Chinese Herbal Materia Medica by Dan Bensky).
