Aubretia are wonderful alpines which form trailing mats of green foliage and are often seen clinging to walls or trailing over rocks. Masses of purple-blue flowers cover the foliage in April and May.
Very drought resistant when established. Excellent for rockeries, gravel gardens, containers etc.
Height and Spread: 15 x 30cm
Aubretia are named after Claude Aubriet, a French botanical painter from the 1700s. The original Aubretia plant came from the Middle East in 1710 and soon became established as a cottage garden favourite, valued for its early flowering. Many different colours and forms have since been bred from the original.
Synonym: Aubretia 'Glacier Violet'
