A very attractive broad-leafed sedge. Tufts of arching green leaves and in early summer it bears mid-green flowers, followed by large green, star-shaped seedheads.
Popular with flower arrangers.
Named in honor of one of America’s leading botanists of the 19th Century, Asa Gray (1810-1888). Gray’s Sedge is listed as a threatened plant in Massachusetts.
Native to North America where it grows near rivers and in forests. Thrives in wet areas but also seems to be able to cope well in dryer conditions.
