This is a more compact version of the stately Cynara cardunculus, reaching a more moderate 4' height. Especially bred for cut flower use, it also has the advantage of having fewer spines.
Silver-grey, pointed and divided foliage, it is a grand specimen for a prominent position in the border. In summer it bears medium-sized, blue, thistle-like flowers that will make for dramatic arrangements and are also excellent for drying.
Rarely available in nurseries and not often seen in gardens.
Height: 1.2m
