Pokeweed is rarely seen in UK gardens but it's a seriously underrated plant for a large space.

Originating in Florida, Phytolacca americana is a robust and vigorous plant with long spikes of small, green-white flowers from May until autumn, followed by glossy black berries which are loved by birds. It forms a bush of up to 2.5m in a year but, being deciduous, dies back to the ground in winter. Fully hardy in the UK and lives for many years.
