Hemerocallis 'Buckingham Forge' (Daylilly)

This Hemerocallis has been named by us as it's real name is unknown. It was given to us by a local customer who tells us:

"This plant has been flowering in Buckingham every year since the 1890’s... I first came across it outside Herring the Saddlers shop in the Bullring. When we married we came to live beside the Herrings, and Mr Herring who was a very keen gardener very kindly dug me up a bit - the size of a dustbin lid - appeared on the doorste. I planted it, it has flowered every year here ever since. He said his grandfather planted it in the 1890’s."

It blooms from mid to late summer. As the name suggests, each flower lasts just one day. Will grow into a good sized clump but is not invasive. 

The name "hemerocallis" is derived from the Greek words for "day" and "beautiful," referring to the individual flowers lasting for about 24 hours.

All our plants are supplied in 9cm pots unless otherwise specified. Plants in this size pot establish quickly in the garden and often outpace plants in bigger pots planted at the same time. Our potted plants can be planted immediately, unless otherwise noted, or you can leave them in their pots until you are ready to plant.
The majority of our plants are grown outdoors. This means that they follow their natural growth patterns and are ready to plant at any time of the year. If you order the plants in winter, they are likely to be dormant and died back to ground level, ready to shoot again in spring - just like the herbaceous perennials in your own garden. Very occasionally, in winter and early spring, we may indicate on the packing slip that a plant needs to be hardened off before planting out. We grow most of what we sell ourselves, in our nursery in the Buckinghamshire countryside. Our prices include VAT at 20%.
