Rosettes of fresh green foliage below candles of dark purple-violet flowers. Blooms profusely in May, June and July, followed by attractive seed-heads, that gradually darken to a reddish-black. It’s ideal for growing in a sunny mixed or herbaceous border, and is also suitable for growing in containers.
A short-lived perennial, but allow it to seed and you'll never be without it.
It will tolerate a wide range of soil conditions but must have good drainage.
