One each of our pink and white Ivy-Leaved Cyclamen. Two potted plants.
Cyclamen hederifolium is often the first sign of Autumn when its charming pink flowers push their way above ground in late August and continues to flower all winter and through spring.
Hederifolium is the easiest species to grow as it will withstand extreme cold and frozen conditions in winter and high temperatures and drought in summer, when it is protected by its dormancy.
Cylamen prefer light shade and are perfect for planting under deciduous shrubs and trees, in the ground or in a container.
Awarded the RHS Award of Garden Merit.
After flower and seed production, the leaves die back to the tuber, along with most of the roots. This means that you may buy the plant in its dormant state (i.e. in summer).
John Gerard, in his 'Gerard's Herball' (1597), writes "It is reported unto mee by men of good credit, that Cyclamen or Sow-bread groweth upon the mountaines of Wales; on the hils of Lincolnshire, and in Somerset shire. Being beaten and made up into trochisches, or little flat cakes, it is reported to be a good amorous medicine to make one in love, if it be inwardly taken." We do not recommend this!
